Bear Visitor

We lived here for almost 24 years. We've seen deer, possums, raccoons, river otters, bald eagles, squirrels, woodpeckers, mice, rabbits, blue heron, owls, and lots and lots of slugs. But this is the first time I've seen a bear in the neighborhood.

He was in our yard, but it took me a minute to get the camera.

I went outside.

I know, that might not have been smart, but luckily, this bear seems to have been wandering alone, and had no interest in me....

Thank goodness!!

Play with Clay

My twin sister and I are getting older, but that doesn't stop us from playing like kids. Especially when our birthday is just around the corner.

This year, Alison found out about a pottery studio (through Living Social) where we could take a beginner's class. Our teacher demonstrated techniques for wedging the clay, and then threw a bowl on the wheel to show us what to do.

Back in the day, I had one semester of ceramics in college. That was a few years ago- about 37 years ago, if you must know! I tried throwing without success. Luckily, I did hand-built pieces to finish the class.

So today was a proud day- I actually centered the clay-TWICE! So I made two small bowls.

My students always want to do clay, but without a kiln, (and expertise), I've opted to do other types of 3D work. But there's just something wonderful about working with clay!

(Okay, this second bowl is kinda messed up on the bottom....oh well. It was FUN trying!!

Alison and I walked over to a park just across the way, and I loved the circles in the gravel walkway...

And the view of the riverfront was pretty nice too. But will you look at that sky color? Where is the blue sky and sunshine? July 19th and the sky is a perfectly invisible shade of gray. (Even for the Pacific Northwest, this is just wrong! But look at all that green. Okay, I'm not complaining...much.)

Thanks, Alison, for sharing a fun day!

Leftovers and Ribbits

I found some leftover 9-patch blocks in the closet, and they had to be put to use. Immediately. I don't know why. I framed each of them in another polka dot, leftover from the backing of a quilt made for one of my g-girls. Then some white sashing. I've got the binding ready- it's a bright red, and the backing will be another shade of green polka dot.

And here's another baby blanket, thrifted flannel frogs. I don't know where this one will be donated, but there's always a need, so it will be nice to have one on hand!
